The Board of Directors of New Hampshire Healthy Kids Corporation is pleased to announce that they have directed their management team to immediately begin exploring development of a health insurance product for young adults to purchase, called the Young Adult Buy-In Program. However, an effective date for the Young Adult Buy-In program has not been determined.
Governor Lynch signed Senate Bill 115 into law on July 16, 2009 which enables New Hampshire Healthy Kids to expand coverage to young adults from ages 19 up to 26 years who cannot be included in their family’s health insurance plan, and whose incomes are at or below 400% of the federal poverty level. The New Hampshire Healthy Kids Young Adult Buy-In Program will not receive any state or federal subsidies, and will be funded entirely by subscriber premiums.
“The New Hampshire Healthy Kids Board of Directors and staff are committed to providing quality, affordable health insurance to New Hampshire’s uninsured children and we look forward to offering the Buy-In Program to New Hampshire’s qualified young adults,” said Suzanne Boulter, M.D., Chair of New Hampshire Healthy Kids Board of Directors, and past President of the New Hampshire Pediatric Society.
On July 1, 2009, New Hampshire Healthy Kids selected Harvard Pilgrim to be its insuring partner for children, based on the non-profit health plan’s competitive premiums and robust wellness programs. “Harvard Pilgrim will now work closely with the NH Healthy Kids Board and other stakeholders to design a cost-effective plan that delivers value to New Hampshire’s young adults,” said Beth Roberts, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England’s Vice President.
New Hampshire Healthy Kids will begin work with its insurance partners, Harvard Pilgrim and Northeast Delta Dental, to define the elements of a health and dental insurance product for young adults. Program elements under consideration will include eligibility requirements, benefit structure, application process and enrollment procedures.
